A research study is conducted to learn if a new drug, vaccine, booster, treatment, or method is safe and effective. They follow strict scientific standards and regulations to ensure they produce accurate, useful data for health care decision making and to protect the participants.
This research study will test the safety, effectiveness, and tolerability of an investigational gene therapy for adults with temporal lobe epilepsy on only 1 side (unilateral) of the brain that has not responded to current standard-of-care medication.
Taking part in this research study may or may not help your unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy. However, the information collected from you during this study may help doctors learn more about unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy and how to advance treatment options for future generations with the condition.
This study is assessing an investigational gene therapy to determine its safety and tolerability in people with uncontrolled unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy. This investigational therapy has been tested in animal models and in samples of the brain collected from people living with unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy. Based on this testing, the US Food and Drug Administration has authorized this first-in-human study.
